Posting pictures

Hi

Sorry to gripe, but please may I ask members to try and post smaller pictures in the forums?

Smaller in two ways, please:
  1. In terms of the pixel height and width of the pictures, please keep the pictures under (say) 500 pixels on side. That way, the TMC pages will still render properly.
  2. In terms of the file size of the pictures, please try and keep them relatively small. Say, 30KB - 50KB. I know most people have broadband in this day and age, but not everyone has - and there's one page (for example) in the "Places to drink coffee" forum that takes a very long time to download at low speeds, as it has 5 or 6 pictures of around 130KB each on each page.

If you haven't any way of reducing the size of pictures from your digital cameras I'll be happy to help. However, there are a number of freeware picture editors out there that I am sure must be up to the standard required for such simple work.

Thanks for listening.

Oh, and as a P.S. :

I can impose a maximum file size for picture attachments. Currently the maximum is set at 256KB, which is far too high. However, I find that the current version of the forum software doesn't give a sensible error indication to the user when it declines to upload files which are too large - and rather than confuse people I've left matters to their better judgement! :roll:

Ups, I guess that's adressed to me...sorry. I was always trying to be under 256 and that the size stays on the page without letting someone scroll......okeydokey.
Should I make the existing pics smaller now or do I just have to take care in the future?
Thanks

<Blush>

Yup Joey, you were the person I had in mind, although I didn't want to embarass you by mentioning you by name :oops:.

Please just take care in future. I know you're incredibly busy at the moment, so I'll edit those files for you later today if that's all right?

Thanks very much

Phil

Joey

I'll fix those piccies tomorrow. I got rather carried away tonight, doing some Perl programming for the email project. I was having fun (what a geek!) and Allyson's gone to bed in a huff because she hasn't seen me all night! :oops:
