stepless macap and french press

Postby bogner » Sun Nov 26, 2006 2:47 pm

been using my Macap MC4 for nothing else but espresso - but now comes a time when I may have to grind for french press .. which setting do you use outthere on your stepless Macap? when grinding for espresso I have a setting where the "7" is more or less located at the exit chute .. what number do you have there when grinding for french press?

It might be a case of trial and error Bogner. Our Macap is stepped so it would be fairly easy to work out the right point for FP, but we use a Solis 166 for brewed coffee. As I am sure you will anyway, I would mark the collar for your espresso position before experimenting and then go two thirds to three quarters of the way out on the collar and start experimenting from there.

hehe nothing wrong with Vivi - no worries .. it's just that sometimes it's a bit faster to make a presspot of coffee - like for Irish coffee or something like that ..

I guess it's also just a matter of me being a bit lazy - I usually use my Zass when grinding for press, but I would just like to test out if the Macap makes a better press grind - and not waste too many beans testing it :)

If you had an Aeropress you could make a similar style cup (as FP) and still be grinding at the same fineness you do for espresso... ;) Just a thought...

Well I have lots, but can honestly say that since I got the Aeropress it's the only coffee maker I use if I'm not making an espresso based drink.

I'm on holiday this week so hopefully I'll be able to find the time to find a solution to the steam tips. I'll let you know! :)

damn it - I might as well get that aeropress then - I actually sometimes miss a regular cup of coffee, americanos just don't do 'it' for me .. this is the most expensive forum ever!!
