I just tried the aeropress over the weekend. Last year's travel kit was a Brikka and a turkish grinder. Maybe this year it will be the aeropress instead. It makes really good coffee. Not espresso, no, not even lungo. But apart from the espresso machine, so far I must admit I find it tastes better than any other method I have tried, including the Brikka moka pot. (Haven't tried an ibrik, so can't say anything about that. But my tastebuds claim it beats the press pot, the Bodum vac pot and common drip coffee machines)
As for the Aeropress being good to travel with... well, aren't there a bit too many parts? The Brikka travels as one part. The aeropress has filters+filter hodler, stirring stick, coffee spoon and two cylinders. And a mostly useless funnel. None of this, except for the coffee spoon, fits inside the aeropress. I also find it extremely ugly. Maybe that´s only me.
But with a bit of functional re-design, and perhaps a taste job, this would be a killer coffee gadget. Oh, and a metal filter! Please let us buy a metal filter!
