rancilio silvia

Postby catherine » Tue Mar 07, 2006 11:03 am

Bought a silvia 5 months ago and I love it BUT it has already died on me twice - orange light comes on but it does not heat up. The suppliers fixed this fine on both occasions but now its happened again. Am I just very unlucky or is this a common problem with this machine?

Never happened to me but there are others on the forum with much greater experience so they can help more I'm sure. Pity though.

I'm not familiar with the Silvia but sounds like the thermostat or heating element keeps blowing, did the supplier tell you what they've replaced on both occasions?
You may just have been unlucky and got a 'rogue' machine
Whatever is wrong is not really acceptable,3 break downs in 5 months,I'd ask(nicely) for either a replacement machine or money back.

my 2 cents worth, good luck :)

Yes I think they replaced the element the second time. I think you're right though - I'm going to ask for a replacement. I can't put up with such an unreliable machine + I have to pay the congestion charge in London every time I take it back!

Yes, Drury. They've always been very nice and helpful but I'm starting to get a bit fed up now

Give drury a ring and ask if you can take it back to the coffee machine co then, as they are not in the CC zone and that's where all the engineers/spares are.

Phone drury (shop) first though and sort things out with them (easier and more efficient than calling CM Co)... Pick up any spares you might need whilst there as they are relatively cheap and will save you a fiver on postage further down the line.

No problem, that's what TMC is all about... it's just up to you to invite us all round when you're up and running! Seriously though, I'm surprised you've been having problems with a Silvia as this is far from common. Once you've got the machine sorted (or even before), considr becoming a member and we'll show you all the joys of ridgeless baskets and pids

Hi, I'm in Australia and I've had my Silvia for 10 months, and it's happened to me. The light is on, it pumps OK, but it won't heat. I tried resetting the switch on the thermostat, but no luck. It's under warranty, so I'll be taking it back
