I thought Otto bought the original design to reproduce it? Hmm.

I love the look of them (always have), but I'm wary of anything that is a stovetop, as they seem so sensitive to temperature management. Not sure about the price hike for euro buyers either, that's quite a bit just for postage.

The one I keep meaning to try is the neapolitan flip.
This week I are feeling sleepy!

I used to have one of the original Atomics. It is really nothing but a steam toy without the built-in electric heater. It makes the same product as any stove-top mocha pot with all the same problems.

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

Same here Bruce. I agree with that. I binned mine before finding out that it could bring a good amount of money.

I am more than happy to discover this here. First, because i have loooooved this design ever since i saw it for the first time. Second, because i am glad to hear, that only the design is great. That way i will not expect much, if i were to get a good deal on an old classic of that sort.
Third, did not know, they are still - or again - making them.
Too bad, that coffee is never just about looking good.

... but has anyone had also good experiences with the coffee taste one may achieve with this machine, besides the technical difficulties? I mean, for that price these days one must get SOMETHING, besides eye-pleasure.

No, the basic design is flawed, just like with any of the other fancy chrome-plated steam toys. You cannot force boiling water by steam pressure through coffee grounds and get anything but overextracted, bitter mud water.
