Italian Coffee Shop in London anyone?

Postby edy » Thu Aug 18, 2011 12:32 am

Apart from L'angolo, which is owned from an Italian chap, all the other cafes are not italian either in the ownership or in terms of baristas.

I don't think I've ever came across a cafe' (or BAR as we call it in italy) that is ran from and Italian and serves a decent coffee (l'angolo in my opinion puts a lot of effort but is not a proper coffee shop and drinks are only acceptable).

This is a shame, especially because we have a lot of respect from Antipodeans that really rule London's market (having introduced them to the coffee culture when we expat back in the days...).

I really liked this article:

It shares some of my visions about coffee shops and the Italian "ownership" of coffee culture.

My question is:
Why there's no Italian entrepreneur or simply passionate about coffee to own a (proper, real) coffee shop in London?

Welcome to TMC Edy :)

I think coffee is an international thing with lots of variations in flavour preferences. It would be lovely to have Italian-centric coffee bars serving decent coffee in the capital. Perhaps someone will take up the baton and do so in the future, though I am not sure any one group having "ownership" of what is a very varied culture is either healthy or desirable to most.
