Too Much Coffee

Hi Guys,

Im looking to find one or two reputable cafes in Queenstown, NZ, for employment. Im flying into Christchurch from Australia, and have pencilled in Vivace Espresso and Luciano's for a few ristretto's, but im really struggling to find a brew in Queenstown.

Seeing there are two a penny Kiwi's in the UK coffee scene at the moment, I would really appreciate if someone knew of a good cafe or roaster I could get in touch with.

I would also see if you can get hold of Mr Kyle as he is from that neck of the woods.
He works for one of the ex-partners of Flat White in Akaroa, not sure what the cafe is called.

When I was in Queenstown I visited Joes, http://www.joes.co.nz/, nice little place, pretty mean bongo/picollo latte from what I remember.

Worth checking out cuisine magazine when out there too, will cover some cafe stuff along with great tips for food and drink, try Amisfield winery, awesome lunches

Well, my one day in Christchurch was spent pretty well; C4 Roasters in the city provided an amiable start, including a single-origin Guatemalan served drip style to accentuate the flavour. They also sell a host of coffee related merchandise!

The afternoon saw me visit Luciano Marcolino (a passionate and informative stalwart of the scene here) in addition to visiting Vivace Espresso. I tried to find Carl Sara's new cafe, which was opening the next day, but unfortunately couldn't! Nevertheless, I tried one of his special single origin Brazillians at Luciano's joint, which is quite strangely attached to a furniture store!

Regarding Queenstown; Ange at Bean Around The World Roastery provided a well balanced espresso, and was very welcoming to me.

Must make a special thank you to Kyle of Lyttleton Roastery, based just outside of Christchurch. Top man! Anyone who visits Christchurch must make the effort to head on down to the scenic town of Lyttleton, which boasts a rather stunning coffee scene.

The last time I visited Queenstown, I had some nice coffee at the Vudu Cafe (http://www.vudu.co.nz).

yep...Vudu are a client of Bean Around The World Roasters, alongside the likes of Grind and Patagonia, the exquisite chocolatier on the shorefront. Joe's Garage also served a well balanced and clean espresso, and the fact that they didnt charge only made it sweeter!

Returning to Christchurch, I finally found Carl Sara's new roastery cafe, Crafted Coffee Company. Was fantastic! Had a chat with the great man himself. Carl passion and dedication to research and development elucidates clearly and he has employed a talented team that will be putting NZ firmly back on the pinnacle of espresso extraction. Watch this space!

its on blenheim road, number 140 (ish). near the crossing of clarence and blenheim streets. there is no website at this early stage, so those that go there are those in the know! its pretty much 2 / 3k's west of Luciano's cafe.

took me a good hour to walk there from the city centre, but was worth it. can walk through the botanical gardens, and make an afternoon of it if your a tourist like me.


im now in the north island, wellington to be exact, which features the some of the big boys... Supreme, Mojo, L'affare, Havana as well as more specialist roasters like People's Coffee. Thus far, I havent been over-impressed with the standard, but would anyone care to reccommend a cafe?
