I'm in London for a week and I'll make sure to visit as many of these places as possible.

I've been AWOL from the forum for a while so thought I should make myself useful, updated a stack of locations in Northern Ireland

Hey guys, as some of you know I've been reviewing and providing info for local coffee shops here in Northern Ireland and had created my own google map, pulling results from google docs
Having talked with espressoSquirrel I've pulled in the map locations from the his google map to create one map to rule them all

I've recently setup a form on my site (which can be used on any site) to allow users to submit a new cafe, address, opening hours, wifi etc, adding a new location on the map you can see it for yourself over at Exile Coffee I also have an iPhone webapp in place at ireview allowing new cafes to be added on the move.

My plan for the site is to eventually add a filter so you choose that you want to see all cafes open late with wheelchair access etc, I just have to get my head round the google maps API first. I've also started working on iPhone app it'll locate you on a map and then show the nearest good coffee shops, again only held up by my brain melting.

I know at the moment my map markers have a review score, in the next couple of days I'll be moving away from that and using, a short written review instead (which registered users can also add) linking to a blog post which will allow others to comment.

Just wanted to get feedback from you guys, and see what you thought.

Andrew, thanks! learning an API is non-trivial, but Google makes it relatively painless.

I really like the idea of locations having an associated blog post, with comments. Kind of, "I came here expecting X, and instead I had the best coffee..." "yes, me too" "mine was a little over-extracted"....

That was my idea, I'm working on a way to automagically generate a blog post once a new cafe is added to the spreadsheet, probably when someone clicks the "more info" link for the first time, it'll generate a post and propagate with the info from google docs. I've a couple of other ways to do it, but just want to make sure its secure first.

The iPhone app may actually come before the site is to a stage I'm happy with, thanks to a few offers of help over twitter. The internet is great! :D

Well the good news, is I have the site working pretty well. New submissions automatically create a page and a corresponding marker on the map, if the submitter is an exisitng user. If not it will scanned for spam and held in a queue to be reviewed before publishing. The initial users 'notes' are what show on the marker info on the map and all pages can have additional comments added.

I think thats probably the easiest way I can set things up to be both functional and secure. Let me know what you think.
