New here, Edinburgh based

Postby CoffeeChris » Wed Jul 11, 2007 6:04 pm

Hello,

I'm new here. I'm part of a small mobile coffee business based in Edinbugh. We're looking to get fresh with our coffee. At the minute we use commercial vacuum packs from a certain Italian company based in Torino. We're using their Rainforest Alliance blend, which is ok and not over-roasted but I know there's a lot better out there. Any coffee experts or suppliers here want to tell me about quality, freshly roasted coffee and the price thereof?

Look forward to hearing from anyone, especially those in the area who might be interested to see what we're doing.

Hi Chris and welcome to TMC :D . There are a number of decent coffee suppliers out there and a fair few commercial folk on here who will certainly point you in the right direction. From a personal point of view, I enjoy the offerings here, as do many others on this site.

I'm in Edinburgh too. let us know where you are and we'll all flock to try your shots.

Have you considered Brodies in Musselburgh, not sure where, I'll check with my brother in law, they import tea but he thinks they roast coffee too, you'll be able to get fresh stuff from them. Although, the link a few posts above is an excellent alternative, but not as local.

They (Brodies) do roast - I have had it from Stirling to Kirkwall, but have never been all that impressed with it to be honest. Though it was almost certainly not fresh roasted!!!! Commonly found in farm shops and delis (infact I believe that the wee deli in Doune stocks it....)

I was convinced that "the bean shop" were based in Edinburgh, but seems they are in Perth. Still pretty close! I also saw a leaflet whilst wandering about Stirling Uni for a new roaster in Stirling recently which I should really try out at some stage!

I shall endeavour to look you out next time I am on one of my (very) rare visits to the capital!

Welcome CoffeeChris! I used to live in Edinburgh from Aug 97 until Jan 98! I had a fantastic time there. The Edinburgh Festival must be starting soon again. The summer of 97 was amazing! The only thing I didn't like was the area I was living (Sighthill).

I remember the #1 coffee in Scotland in 1997: Nescafe!

Hi CoffeeChris, I'm trying to go mobile with my coffee shop based in Lisburn, I've another post here on the board asking for recommendation for espresso machines, dare I ask what you use and how you find it?

Thanks
Andrew

Welcome to the forum Chris. Sourcing freshly roasted coffee may prove a problem which is why many of us here roast our own.
