Hi,

I'm going to be physically removed (something about wild horses was mentioned) from the vicinity of my new espresso machine this weekend and forced to camp out in the wilds of norfolk for three days (!) - I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of making a good cup of coffee in the great outdoors?

I was thinking about one of those little italian stove top machines...

Sometimes.....it's just better to go without. If the pain gets too bad...then there is always a Cold Beer. Otherwise tea tastes pretty good almost anywhere :wink:

A hand grinder and an Aeropress would be my choice...

Just Canadian jungle coffee is what I make, needed is an old clean metal coffee pot, a good fire, water (preferably out of a clear stream), coarse ground dark roasted coffee and a pinch of salt. Boil the water above the fire, take the pot away from the flames, add one tablespoon of coffee per cup and one extra, add a pinch of salt, put briefly back over the fire, remove again and let steep for a couple minutes.
Pour in to a cup and add a shot of your favorite spirits (Candian whiskey perhaps) and enjoy. That's all.
Bezzera B3000A, Giotto Premium, several Cona's, several Balance Brewers, Atomic, Milano etc,
Aristarco, Rancilio MD 40, Ditting and Eureka MCI grinders, several antique roasters, a mini500/800N propane/electric Taiwanese roaster, greens all over the place...and some other unmentionables that have not been mentioned......

i went with a turkish hand grinder thing i picked up on holiday, cleaned out of its usual pepper, and a stove top last time i went camping, not the best, but defernatly drinkable :) And to be honest if its a cold / hungover morning you tend to be thankfull for anything black and caffinated thats not made of freeze dried gunk

Here's the Norwegian version (especially in the middle parts of norway):
The coffee is made pretty much the same way as zapty's, except for the salt.

Then, put a shiny coin in your cup, add coffee until you can no longer see the coin. Then, add 96% homemade alcohol until you can see the coin again.

This is called a "karsk".
