Espresso in Aberdeen

Is it actually possible to find a good shot?

Espresso in Aberdeen

Postby Paws » Fri Apr 07, 2006 11:12 pm

One of the best shots I've had was in a coffee shop my friend owns.

About 1cm of Crema on the espresso. I tried to use a spoon to "dig" to see the coffee but couldn't.

Beans ground straight in to the portafilter when needed. No doser full of stale grounds.

And the taste...absolutely beautiful!

The place...Kilau Coffee at 9a Little Belmont Street.

I'm not too sure what beans they use. I think its a blend that they had made up for them by MacBeans of Aberdeen.

I'm not too sure he'd tell me anyway considering I work at a rival coffee shop!

Good point  . At least it sounds as though they are serious about the beans they use, i.e. freshly roasted rather than the usual commercial vacuum packed stuff roasted two years previously.

I'm not going to mention where I work...

And I probably shouldn't have said what I did in my previous postings...therefore I have edited it...

Well if your boss is looking in PAWS he should be ashamed of himself. Don't stress about it - you just told the truth :D

Ah yes! But I'd be sacked!

I'd much rather have another job before I get sacked/quit.

You deserve better than him anyway - perhaps one of the other cafes will spot your shining light and take you away to clean coffee machines and empty dooooooozers :D

I'm aware that some people feel that too much weight is given to the amount of crema when making espresso. Even so, I'm never happy with my crema unless it can bear the weight of a healthy three year old child.
This is a bit of a pain as I don't possess one and have to borrow the neighbours.
