Cleaning the Hottop glass

Postby theDirector » Fri Aug 17, 2007 4:43 pm

Just wanted to pass on a tip for cleaning the glass window of the Hottop - I have found the 'It Works - cleaning blocks' to be pretty good at removing the oils that build up on the glass, making it difficult to see the colour of the beans clearly. I tend to pop the lid in to hot water for a few minutes, then use the block - it works pretty well.

I've always found that soaking it in boiling soapy water until the water cools is all that is required. Pour some Fairy liquid onto the glass, pour boiling water straight from the kettle over it and leave it to soak.
I wish I were what I was when I wished I were what I am.

Oven cleaner does the job in a couple of minutes. I have some that is a gel and I just brush it on with a nylon brush and run hot water over it afterwards. No scrubbing, no rubbing. Better living through (harsh) chemistry.
Three Francesconi (CMA) espresso machines - Rossi, San Marco, LaCimbali, Faema and 2 Mazzer Major grinders- CoffeeTech Maggionlino, Hottop, Alpenröst and HW Precision roasters.
I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!
