The TSP572 thermometer (max reading is 300C) arrived from the States and I've done about 4 roasts using it : 2 x 225gr each of Haraar and Monsooned, with the Hottop set at max of 7. I've discarded the split pin in favour of 2 'R' clips. The temperature readings from the top of the drum, are a bit higher than last week. I suspect this is because the R clips allow the tip to penetrate about 7mm into the drum.

The temperature/time gradiant was similar for both beans, so here's the monsooned one :-
0/140 1/132 2/142 3/145 4/150 5/154 6/158 7/161 8/170 9/182 10/188 11/189 12/189 13/192 14/196 15/204 16/210 17/218 18/221 19/223

1st crack 16.35 2nd crack 18.30 and dump at 19.00. Yep it's a long way into 2nd but this is how I likes it. Slight oiling LT Vienna/French roast and very deep and smooth taste. So it does seem that the basic Hottop has a fixed profile. Loading beeps sound after 4.5 mins, when the temp reaches 140C. Between minutes 9 and 14 the temp flattens, until the fan kicks in at 14.5 mins.
I roast on sound and colour, others add smell of smoke. The TSP572 won't improve my roasting, but it's a nice widget for those who like to accessorise.
