Is there a good one somewhere online? Been playing with a swiss gold filter and different grinds, doses etc - and liking the results - but a good guide could also be helpful.

I tried filter for the first time in years after watching this:

With the swiss gold you'd probably want a different technique because you don't have the resistance of the glass/paper to slow down the brew allowing a coarser grind. You need to grind a bit finer and very carefully/slowly meter the water out onto the coffee. How big of a cup are you brewing?

I had to watch the video twice because about halfway through the first time, I realised I was just dancing in my chair.

Strong!

That was a really good video, nice instructions - where is the best place to get some good papers online please?

Thanks - it's the swiss gold 1 cup brewer (brews straight into 1 large mug). There's the flat-ish metal filter at the bottom (with plastic sides); you add the coffee to this, put a plastic thing with small holes in the bottom (to slow down the water as it passes through) on top, and then pour in the water. There's a pic here http://www.anothercoffee.co.uk/products/item110310.aspx I've been using 17g coffee with 260ml water.

Even grinding pretty coarse, this brewer doesn't get much under 3mins brew time. Medium grind - just slightly on the fine side for French Press - gets near a bit over 4:30 mins to drip through.

Because of the thing with small plastic holes in the bottom - which slows down the flow of water quite effectively - there's less flexibility than with the type of filter in the video. You pretty much have to pour water in and let it drip through.

V easy, though, and results aren't at all bad :D

I sometimes use the same swiss gold filter but I never use the insert with the holes, I find it just gets in the way.

I let the grounds bloom then pour a bit at a time, letting each pour filter through before starting the next, seems to work ok.

I usually use a paper filter and plastic cone for an even cleaner cup but the swiss gold is quicker (no need to rinse papers first) and easier to clean up which are both an advantage in a busy kitchen at work.

Thanks all. Actually, think I may be too cackhanded to improve on the (pretty good, to be fair) results from using filter + plastic insert. Makes nice coffee, anyway :)
