I picked one up today (stove top version). According to the box it holds half a litre, which is a bit less than a pint.

Looking forward to trying it.

As far as I understood the version still available from Cona (although you didn't say where you bought it) is what is referred to as the 'Kitchen' model in the Junior size (1pt), rather than the Standard (2pt), with the flat bottom for stove top use.

Does the A B C D not refer to the table model on the stands with the burner, with the more globular lower bowl?, and I thought the B size of these were definitely out of production.

I have an e-bayd Junior model which is just great on the gas, perfect for your morning two mugs worth Phil

Cheers

Paul - no prizes for guessing where I got it - I was there today

Matt - my supplier has both table and kitchen models in B size. I got the kitchen model 'cos I can't be arsed with the spirit lamp

agree with the comments about the spirit lamp - don't believe in all that "can you hear me on the other side?" nonsense ...

seriously, will speak with you know who about getting one because I need to order some replacement Hottop filters - it is about 20 roasts per filter isn't it??

cheers,

Paul.

Good on both counts, I just use mine straight on the tiniest gas ring. But I'm pretty sure from the last discussion I had with the guy at Cona that they aren't making the B size anymore and just running down the stocks (does your supplier  know?), it would be as well to get spares if anyone goes the table model route.

From memory mine was £14 (another mint bargain!), they still come up from time to time. Standard model size is much more common and can often be had for £10 odd if bidding is quiet but 2pts is a lot of coffee! I especially enjoy lighter roasted SO fruity coffees from it and have never stalled it, even with the not very exalted *$ Barista on grinding duties.

is the running down thing just true for the table model??

I use the stove top model with a heat diffuser on a gas hob ...

Can't comment on the "running down" remarks, all I know is that the supplier I use got them in pretty recently.

I'm looking forward to comparing the results with those from the Santos. I also intend to try the Santos with the glass rod from the Conas. I can't imagine there'll be much difference.

BTW I got the Conas (a B & a D) 'cos the Santos is on its last legs - there is a "star" crack in the bowl and I can't get spares.

Oh Paul - just spotted the Lord Voldemort reference...

30 roasts for a Hottop filter, give or take a lie or two....

And they can be stripped and cleaned if you're careful. Wash the black bit carefully and then leave it to dry. Should extend the life considerably.
