Hi guys, I'm off work this week in "bored" mode :) I under roasted a batch of espresso blend, off Steve at Hasbean. What would happen if I put it back in the next day for another roasting Someone must have tried it :idea:

I have considered, but never tried. Roasting involves a series of complicated chemical processes, so I doubt you could have another go with the same beans. But if you try it, please tell how it ended!

Matthew algie do a double roast of one of their coffees, but don't say which one.

You are more than likely to get some very odd, baked tastes from it. But try it! Report back when you are done!

Generally it will be not good. There are some places who claim to have a special 2-stage roast process, but most who have tried this ahve ended up with something quite nasty. It doesn't hurt to give it a go, at least then you can see/taste what it does for yourself, and at worst you just throw the beans away.

I've done this a number of times. In my opinions it's still better than tossing the beans. I don't think the results are anywhere near as weird as most people seem to think they should be. YMMV

I decided I needed a bit of a change so I roasted some Monsooned Malabar. That was a change!

well guys I tried it....and...It's actually quite pallatable.
The original problem was a very fruity/acidic roast much too light for my taste to the point I actually spat it out! It's degassed about 4hrs gone slightly bitter but quite usable, certainly better than binning the batch.
I use a Cafe Gene roaster, I preheated the drum and put it back in for 8 mins @220c.

I did some basic experiments a while back and found that there were some times you could get away with it, and others you really couldn’t. All of them had a slight baked taste to them, and a lot of the nuances had dies a little.

There was a thread somewhere (which I'm sure Dom will find) where we talked about foods that are re heated rarely being as good as when cooked first, I rambled there too :)

Does anyone find that bolognaise sauce always taste better the second day (asumming that you make it from scratch)?

For whatever reason some perfectly fine beans get underroasted. It has been known to happen. The simple question is, do you bin them straight off or do you try to rescue them by roasting them a second time.

It's not a recommendation.

It's not "reheating." It's finishing the roast. It works, i.e. you can bring the pre-roasted beans to first and on to second crack.

The beans that I've tried it on, Brazilian and Kenyan have turned out quite well. I used them in blends and the results were fine. Some beans may not take to it at all well. YMMV (Yes My Mind Vacillates).

If you don't want to bother, don't have the time, toss them. But it can't hurt to try. You can bin them afterwards if you don't like them.

Most meat sauces taste better after they have had time to harmonise. Image
