Found the Evoluzione review on the Bella Barista website, it's worth a read. http://www.bellabarista.co.uk/pdf/Rocket-Espresso-Evoluzione-v3.pdf I was surprised to see that the drip tray held about 300ml's - doesn't seem very much, though it could be plumbed in! The metal base frame sounds as though it could be made of plain old painted steel rather than stainless - the evidence of surface rust on a weld underneath the drip tray area was a little disturbing. Disappointingly for me the new design had no low water level alarm and no boiler insulation - petty niggles, but can confess to being sorely tempted.

Yes, the Giotto is a real beauty - the prettiest of the E61 boxes in my opinion. By the feature set of the Duetto won over and I have one the way. The grinder choice is still giving me a headache, though. The Major-E, the Nino or the K30 Vario?
* The Major is the cheapest but probably retains the most coffee and may still have some issues with clumping or static.
* The Nino is the most expensive and the biggest, but should not have major grind retention, clumping or static issues.
* The usability and ergonomics of the K30 are great and they have now fixed the clumping issues as well. It is also the smallest and looks good, too - but would the style match the Duetto?
Choices, choices...
By the way, FWIW, the ProM I had was apparently a pre-production unit and some of the issues I had have already been fixed in the actual production units. But I am not going back to the ProM (although I will follow user experiences with interest).

I'm afraid no. I have already ordered the Izzo Alex Duetto II and very much look forward to receiving it in a couple weeks' time.
I also hope to make my mind up the grinder front soon, although a kind friend has offered to lend his spare Mazzer Mini-E while I wait for whatever grinder I finally decide to purchase.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the Duetto particularly with regard to its shortcomings. The hassle of removing the cup warming tray to fill the pourover tank without decent cut outs or handles sounds a bit of a drag. I guess plumbing in is always an option though, keep us posted.

There are a couple of mods I am already planning. One of them is this. The other I will elaborate on more once I (hopefully) get it done.
Could you elaborate on what other shortcomings you feel the Duetto has?

I see. Much luck with your new machine then.
Where did you buy the Izzo? |

You have the main shortcoming for me covered by the handle modification. The only other design niggle is the hot water wand. I don't use it much myself, but it's short and straight with a limited range of movement. I saw it in use on the web and thought that for a machine of this calibre lacked a little design functionality.
Good luck with the machine and the mods, look forward to you elaborating on TMC with your tweaks.

The latest Duetto II's come with the swiveling no-burn steam and hot water wands (also in Europe). This sees to the another shortcoming.
Decided on the grinder, too. It's a custom finished Mahlkönig K30 Vario (the latest model that has the de-clumping improvements).
Will post pics and experiences when the kit has arrived (although the grinder will take 4-6 weeks due to the customer finish and the WBC).

Any news Teme? Do you have the Izzo and the grinder already? |

Yes. I've had the Izzo for some time now, but the grinder has not yet arrived (it should be on its way tomorrow anr early next week at the latest).
The Izzo is good - I am a lot happier with it than I was with the Maxi. It is even quieter than the GS3 was and I like ability to switch of the steam boiler (I usually only need it in the morning). Cup clearance is miles better than in the Maxi, but not as good as the Andreja. The GS3 of course was in a different league.
My Duetto is not plumbed in and filling the tank is more difficult than it was with the GS3, but adding the cup tray rails helps. On the other hand, the GS3 solution was not perfect, either. It was a major source of noise / resonances and there were some contact issues with the water level probe setup.
There's also the drip tay dripping off the sides issue with the Duetto, but I think some silicone might fix this (and this won't be visible).
The E61 group of the Duetto does make it more forgiving than the GS3 was. I take this is down to the pre-infusion that just works better than what the GS3 has (imo). The Maxi I should not even mention in the same sentence.
The temp adjustability of less accurate in the Duetto vs the GS3, but in my opinion accurate enough for practical purposes. It is, however, slower to change from one temp to another in the Duetto.
So I am happy once I receive the new grinder. And impressed that a machine that is approximately 1/3rd of the price of the GS3 can come so close and in some areas even surpass the LM. Plus it should be a lot cheaper to run and maintain over the years (less or no custom parts in the Duetto).
